Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I knew it was coming, I prepared for it. I convinced myself that it was for the best that I didn't even consider a 10K followed by a half marathon, but when the announcement hit this morning, I considered it anyway!
Run Disney Announcement: A New Race Challenge & a Coast to Coast Medal
Yep, RunDisney announced a new 10K race the day before the Princess Half Marathon and Glass Slipper Challenge for doing both back-to-back. For those of you that don't want to do the math, that's 6.2 miles on Saturday, followed by 13.1 miles the next day. 19.3 miles.
Shew, when I look at that number, it subdues me a little. But oh getting 2 race medals AND an inaugural third medal for the Glass Slipper Challenge?!?!? *swoon* WHY does my blog have to be so ironically named when it comes to this challenge?!?!
The Coast to Coast challenge sounds fantastic as well, but not nearly as tempting (uh, hello...all I can think of is the price of coast to coast trips!) Look at the bling though!
*sigh*
After getting excited and considering it, I still arrived at the same conclusion that I did before the announcement. I'm not ready. Not in the way I want to be, at least. I think in 9+ months time I could probably "pull it off" but that's not what this journey is about for me. I don't just want to struggle through that half marathon and barely finish. I want to train and grow strong and run it with the pride and knowledge that I worked hard and the race is really just the reward for all the training.
I am also going to try to remember this isn't instant gratification and if I am patient and just do the Half in February 2014...then I will be ready to do the Glass Slipper Challenge the following year in 2015! This means MORE DISNEY! ;)
So, let me live vicariously through you! Are you going to run the 10K, the PHM, or take the Glass Slipper Challenge in 2014?!? What about the Coast-to-Coast?
runDisney already got me with Dumbo. And I'm already planning for Tink. I don't think my wallet can handle much more! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh but Kim...if you just popped over to the PHM too you would get not only a Princess medal but the Coast-to-Coast! ;) Now I'm going to be a race-pusher. LOL! I totally get it, my wallet is partially what is containing me right now. If I wait until 2015 to do the Glass Slipper, I'll not only get another Disney trip, but have TIME to save for it!
DeleteHaha, well if you insist! ;)
Deletethe glass slipper is nothing to sneeze at. but with proper training you can do it... (ahem... should i mention i am considering it?)
ReplyDeleteYou should totally do it Amy! You have the training down woman! Me, I think my head is a little ahead of my body. It will be exciting to hear all about it in 2014 and then train for it for 2015 though.
Deletemy wallet may not be able to handle it... but i'll see what it looks like a little later. lol
DeleteI will not be ready for that anytime the remainder of this year. Or 2014.
ReplyDeleteI still think I'm fooling myself I will be ready for the half in November.
So maybe I can join you in 2015. And attempt to go for it. :)
you'll be ready Nicole! Get training for November and come meet up with me in February for the PHM! Then we can train in 2014 for the Glass Slipper Challenge in 2015! :)
DeleteWhen I saw this announcement my heart skipped a few beats in excitement... then it skipped a few more beats out of anxiety because of what the cost is going to be! Guess I still have a little over a month to make an actual decision? :)
ReplyDeleteI got all excited as well and I'm SOOOOOO tempted, but I think it's a little overkill for my first half to run a 10K the day before too. I'm going to have to keep reminding myself of this...I hope it sells out fast so I don't have to fight the urge to register all summer long! LOL
DeleteI am going to do the Glass Slipper challenge. I will probably do Disneyland again so I will get the regular Coast to Coast medal, but not the special Tink/Princess C2C. My guess is it will be the same price (or similar) to the price of Dumbo in Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to hear all about it Sarah! I'll be there for the Princess and hopefully it will be successful enough that they do the Glass Slipper in 2015 too!
DeleteI think I'm going to do it! I'm planning on running the Princess Half again..so why not?!
ReplyDeleteWOOT! So exciting Rachel!
DeleteI don't think I'll be able to swing this trip (or two), but I will follow along with those who do! Sounds like a fun challenge! Love the bling!!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound fun and I intend on stalking people who do it in 2014 so I can live vicariously until I do it in 2015!
DeleteDarrin asked me this morning if I was going to do the Princess next year. Guess I need to get on board with a training program! :D What are you using?
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm actually not using a training program right now, for a couple reasons. The first being that they are too short, I would be ready for a half by fall if I started now, but also because I don't care for a lot of them. LOL. So, for now I'm doing my own. I do 3 runs a week: 1 tempo/speedy run 3 miles, 1 easy run 3-4 miles, and then one "long run". Those started at 3 miles and I added about .25 to .5 a week. I'm up at 6 miles for my long run and I want to stick around this length for a bit until I get comfortable with it. Then I will probably start one of the official plans in the fall!! I'm SO EXCITED that you are considering running!!! *squeal*
