Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo! Princess Half Marathon Costume.

Way back when I decided to run the Princess Half, I knew I wanted to dress as Cinderella.  I haven't really had a favorite princess but figured if I was going to dress up as one, then I should be dressing as THE Princess.  I'm pretty happy with how it came out!

Put 'em together and what have you got

I might need to work on my poses though! LOL.  The petticoat is something I picked up after Halloween on clearance.  I didn't even think of the costume when I got it but Rey suggested it when I was trying to figure out what to do.  Since I only run in Sparkleskirts I have my black one under it.  Can't go without my pockets!  When I first tried on the shirt and petticoat together, the shirt was riding up a bit when I ran, so I took it to a seamstress and she connected them.  Worked like a charm and is really comfy. She also added the ruffles on the shoulders.

I hot glued a little foam bird to my wrist.

It'll do magic believe it or not

Oops!  I had to come back and edit, I forgot to add the shot of the back.  Naturally, I had to have a shirt that displayed my tattoo!  (Rey didn't notice the tag of my shirt was sticking out when he took this apparently)

Ok, so need opinions on one last thing on my list...Garmin or no Garmin?
I'm not sure I want anything else on my wrist, I'll already have a magicband and I'm carrying a point & shoot as well as a rag (I sweat a lot) with my phone in one of my pockets.  I could use the Nike+ app on my phone if I really needed to.  Do I really need to worry about it?  Mile markers are there already, I'll PR either way and I'm trying not to worry about speed, just finishing. I'm on the fence about taking it.

  1. Love your costume! It's a unique take on Cindy and it looks great! The little bird is awesome! I have to run with my Garmin just to keep myself from going too fast at the start. Although there are mile markers, because of the staggered corral starts you have to do math on the run to figure out your pace which I am not good at! So I vote YES on the Garmin!

    1. Yep, I'm worried that I'll go too fast as well, I hadn't thought of that. Too bad I probably can't keep up with you, then I wouldn't have to bring it! LOL

  2. Love the costume, great job! So cute!

My first half was the disney half and I forgot my garmin in the room...whoops. Now, my garmin is like a security blanket for me and I think I would panic if I did that again. Not sure which way you should go. Like you said, there are course markers and you aren't concerned about speed. Decisions decisions....good luck!!! :0) See you soon!

    1. Thanks Karen! I'm leaning towards taking it but I feel like I'm going to have a ton of stuff with me: Garmin, camera, phone, gels, rag, magicband...wondering if I should just leave the magicband back at the room. I really don't HAVE to take it, my daughter can hold it for me.

  3. Love this and I feel you on the carrying so much ! I'll have chap stick, Sport beans, Kleenex, phone, id & money all in my sparkle pockets and road id, magic band ( I am going alone so I can't leave it in the room) and the band they put on you for the GSC all on my wrist. That stuff will probably drive me nuts !

    1. Yep, I am trying to figure out how to cut down on stuff because even with my Sparklepockets, it seems like a lot! I think I can at least not worry about the magicband, I can leave that with Savannah and my friend that are meeting me at the finish...as long as I don't forget anything the first time I head out the door b/c I'll have to wake them up to get back in the room if I do! I also will initially have a trash bag to sit on and probably a granola bar too for before the race! Thank goodness for Sparklepockets! LOL

  4. I didn't use anything last year to track. I couldn't get any app to work until the first mile or so because it was so congested with all of the people. I wore my Garmin at ToT and it didn't really bother me. BUT if you have so much on already, don't wear it and just enjoy! You look ADORABLE! Can't wait to see you in less than a week!!

  5. Adorable costume!
I have the Nike+ sports watch and yes it's my security blanket, but I'm also an interval runner so when I forgot my watch in the room one year it was a nightmare. I quickly downloaded an app for my phone, but I also used my phone for pics so I constantly had to reset the intervals and it really messed with me mentally.
Plus my half marathon math gets a little sketchy at mile markers. ;)

    1. I have just recently started running intervals, I need to figure out if my Garmin will beep for me. I was using an app and I know I won't want to use it during the race for the same reason you had issues.

  6. I forgot to add: I love your tattoo! It's gorgeous! I'm planning to get a fairly good sized one on my back when I get to my goal weight!

    1. Thanks April! I was waiting and waiting and decided to wait no longer. I got it last March for my 40th birthday. What are you going to get?!?!?

  7. Your costume is great! So much more thoughtful than my Cinderella costume for last year's PHM! In regards to your Garmin, if you are used to running with it, I say use it. It will also help you keep track of your time if you are concerned about being swept. It helped keep my mind at ease because I knew I was burning a lot of time while waiting in line for photos and my Garmin helped me to keep track of my pace.

    1. I LOVED your costume last year Lena, it is one of the things that inspired me to go as Cinderella as well. Your blog was the only blog I ever went back and read the WHOLE THING from when you started training for the PHM until the race!

    2. Awe...you are so sweet and I'm so flattered! I've really enjoyed watching and reading along with your journey to this race. And it's HERE! Your day is almost here! Enjoy it! Revel in it! Have FUN with it! You're going to do amazing!

  8. Your costume is so cute! I've been debating bringing my watch too - especially because I'm worried my phone's battery might die if I use it to track the race. I love looking at the data though, so I'm thinking of putting my watch around my spibelt

  9. No Garmin. Enjoy the race and use the Nike app if you must. But I would say no Garmin.
    I LOVE the costume. Awesome!

  10. This is absolutely perfect! Love it! I always try to take my Garmin in races ( although I usually forget to stop it at the finish line). I want my Garmin to be able to register that run as a "record". And if this is your first time running 13.1 you'll probably want that registered on your Garmin as well! I'd take it. Just REMEMBER to stop it as soon as you cross. I know there will be a lot of excitement. I hope I can remember to stop mine too! ( Just my two cents)

    1. oh, and P.S, if you don't want to feel pressured by your Garmin ( constantly looking at it). Than wear it backwards on your wrist. I often do that so I can't see it while I run, but yet I still have all the data of my run when I am done. Even though this is just a run for fun, I think you'll want to have the data from your first half marathon! Let us know what you decide to do!

    2. That's a fantastic idea Meranda! I figured out how to set it for intervals as well, so I am going to bring it, I think it will help me stay on track and pace myself! I.am.so.excited.

  12. Your costume is PERFECT! Everything from the air to the birdie on your arm! I just love it! Way to go!

I am bringing Garmin, but I have it set to only show me my miles, and not my time. Its the only way for me to run during the winter, so I don't beat myself up :) :)

    1. Thanks Alicia! I've found a way to put intervals on and it will display that instead of my time. I'm worried that I will push myself to go too fast if I'm falling behind in my head what I think I should run it in.

  13. Love it, love it, love it!!!! So cute, you are going to have such a fun time this weekend!!!!!
Leave the Garmin behind, one thing I learned about running races and when it comes to what to wear and put on you, less is more! You've already got the cute bird on one wrist, I wouldn't bother with adding the Garmin. Disney races are like all big ones, you will get mile times given to you throughout the race, but chances are since you've trained well you won't even need them to know how your doing!
Good luck this weekend, sending "bibbidi-bobbidi-boo" magic your way to have a magical weekend!!!

  14. SO SO SO CUTE!!! I love it, and that little bird on your wrist is the perfect touch! Also, your tattoo is really cool... does it have a special meaning?

As for the Garmin thing, last year I paused my Garmin at my first character stop. The line was so long that when I finished the picture and went off to run again, it restarted on me so basically it was useless through out the whole race. On the other hand, I never even thought about it again for the rest of the race. Honestly, I doubt you'll need it, but that's just my opinion. :0)

    1. Thanks Lauren!!! My whole life I've had a connection to trees. I could write a book about that, so I digress... I have been saying for 20 years that I was going to get a tree tattoo and finally went to an artist that created this for me! The girl on the swing is...my spirit, my daughter's spirit...freedom...hard to describe what it means to me, but he really did a fantastic job making a one-of-a-kind piece of art!
